Generation Now: Call for Social Change
MILLENNIALs Call for Social changeIn the spring of 2018, a group of Union College students took my class called "Millennials and Social Change". They were in for a surprise.
They registered for a course about the rise of the everyday changemaker. It was a class that focused on the current student generation, the Millennials (b. 1980-2000), and the changes they wished to see in their lives and in their communities. Ten weeks later, the students in this class had become changemakers themselves. They had risen to the challenge with honesty, passion, and ambition and had written personal stories that inspire and give hope to others. Their collective calls for change became this book. These are their fearless stories. |
Our Stories... Can you Hear us?Can you hear us? In the beginning, we were whispering as we pondered our thoughts, putting them on paper for the world to understand. Can you hear us? Over time, we started to speak in our indoor voice, beckoning for someone--anyone to listen to what we have to say. Can you hear us? Now we are screaming at the top of our lungs, assuring that the words bursting from our lips are amplified enough to allow hundreds, thousands, even millions of people to hear. Or even just one. This is the second volume to Generation Now, a collection of narratives written by students at Union College. Our vision is to tell the stories of the change we wish to see in our worlds. Each of us have written a unique call to action to inspire our readers to make change in our respective communities. Open the book. Hear our voices. And use your own. |
Finding the U in EducationThis book is a collaborative effort by Union College students. They address the changes they wish to see in education. Each writer grapples with a unique and personal issue that has significantly impacted their lives. They set out to make change in their respective communities and inspire the next wave of change makers.

Social Change in the Age of Social distancingWritten in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Social Change in the Age of Social Distancing is the fourth volume of “Generation Now,” a collection of personal narratives written by Union College students. This volume consists of stories that address an area of social change that students wish to see in the post COVID-19 world. Each essay ties in the implications of the global pandemic to their particular topic of interest. All proceeds of our book go to C.O.C.O.A. House, a nonprofit tutoring and academic enrichment program for students in the Schenectady community.
THE POWER OF US Like air in our lungs, we, the changemakers, have placed ink in these pages. Ink that will be set for ages to come so that our stories may continue to inspire, uplift and motivate the next generation. We have uploaded ourselves through a series of powerful narratives that not only touch the heart but transform the mind.
